About the ESMC
A framework, not a script.
The Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum was developed by the California Department of Education in response to Assembly Bill 2016 and adopted by the State Board of Education in March 2021. It supports the AB 101 graduation requirement while giving districts room to reflect their own communities.
All resources on ESResources.org are evaluated against the ESMC's standards, including alignment with AB 101 and ESMC learning goals, historical accuracy and scholarly grounding, promotion of critical thinking and civic engagement, and absence of bias, antisemitism, or discriminatory content.
